• You see visible fraying or a single broken strand near the bottom fixture. Cables fail one strand at a time before they let go completely. Marcus tells his crew: the first broken strand is the warning; the second one is the invoice you could have avoided.
• Scraping or squealing from above the door while the door moves. This is typically a scored or cracked drum pulling the cable unevenly. In coastal West Palm Beach air, oxidation accelerates that wear on metal drums that never got cleaned or lubricated.
